A Menorcan Dream
Son Blanc Menorca is more than just a hotel; it is a sanctuary that allows guests to reconnect with nature, savor locally inspired delicacies, and create lasting memories.
Down a lengthy dusty road that winds through the picturesque landscape of Menorca and nestled on a gentle hill, Son Blanc Menorca stands as a captivating testament to the island's natural beauty. Surrounded by expansive vistas and undulating hills, this heavenly “farm stay” embodies a rustic tranquility.
Void of the valet parking, air conditioning, and bellhop of a traditional luxury resort, instead the “finca” is set back behind an herb garden and parking lot and built using materials and design that promote responsibility. After parking, we unassuredly walked around the back in search of an entrance and confirmation that we were indeed in the right place, to be greeted warmly and explained the philosophy of the property.
While flipping through a beautiful welcome book (one which I hope to purchase), the host explained Son Blanc’s impressive commitment to sustainable practices, referencing both the solar panel array we saw adjacent the parking lot, and rainwater collection used for watering the organic farm. All of this was part of a large restoration project to bring life back to the property and limit environmental impact.
With an unwavering commitment to organic farming practices, the hotel not only cultivates its own produce but also places a strong emphasis on serving up delectable dishes crafted from the freshest, locally sourced ingredients, most of which are sourced directly from their property. In the morning, a robust breakfast buffet, hosted family-style in a farm kitchen (to evade the local bees), was as delicious as it was decadent. Eggs were available on request, sourced from their on-farm chickens, which, I was told, enjoyed music. In the evening, the restaurant showcased a multi-course tasting meal with small dishes, encapsulating the essence of the hyper-local (or "last kilometer") ingredients.
Nature thrives abundantly on the sprawling grounds of Son Blanc, weaving a rich tapestry of biodiversity. From the spiders found in the surrounding walking paths (or right outside our back door) or a turtle that did its best attempt to sprint away when discovered, one is reminded that they are the guest. This place made me feel transported, trading the buzzing of power lines for the humming of bushes with bees diligently pollinating.
Son Blanc Menorca is more than just a hotel; it is a sanctuary that allows guests to reconnect with nature, savor locally inspired delicacies, and create lasting memories in the embrace of Menorca's tranquil beauty. With its impeccable blend of authenticity, comfort, and sustainability, this farm stay hotel offers a truly remarkable experience that captures the essence of Menorca's rustic charm and hospitality.
